Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. What is standby and prime power?

A.Look at what you want it to do:

Standby power : to cover the supply when main´s supply fails
Prime power : to run your business requirements at all times where there is no other power supply

Q. What size of generator do i want?

A. Size is relevant to what you require to run in a mains failure condition. i.e. 100% of the business or less. E.g. 100amps supply requires at least a GEP65 generator (standby) but if you only require essential plant powered during a mains failure then a GEP30 could supply around 50% of the load.

Q. Can i put a generator outside in all weather conditions?

A. Yes. All sets can be supplied with all weather canopies at very little cost.

Q. How long will a tank of fuel last?

A. The generator BUNDED on-board fuel tank can be purchesed with an option of 10 to 12 hour or 24 hour fuel tanks. We can also offer BUNDED stand-alone fuel tanks with fuel connection lines of any size. You tell us how long you want the generator to run for and we will size, supply and install the tank for you.

Q. What is an ATS panel?

A. If you require your standby generator to automatically start and stop when the mains fail and then returns, Kentec can supply, size and install an ATS panel that senses the mains loss and within 10 seconds starts the generator and brings your company back on line matching the mains supply. The only thing you will notice is the lights flicker.

Q. Do I need a UPS?

A. If you are running a computer system on the premises then a UPS will allow the server to maintain power during the short time it takes for the power to switch from mains to generator supply. If no UPS is used then on mains failure your computers and server will shut down and you run the risk of losing data which had not been saved.
